PSP families are set apart from other families in communities due to challenges associated with nonstandard schedules and the risks and requirements of the job. These families recognize that they have a unique way of life and are sometimes perceived by the public as different. Public accountability and organizational demands on PSP can be extended to their families. Families can be celebrated, scorned, or have their contributions unrecognized which can result in feelings of resentment and ambivalence. The expectations and the level of support received at home, from organizations, and from the community can impact PSP families in a significant way.
