Many careers in Canada’s public safety sector involve the use of non-standard work schedules. Non-standard schedules can be described as anything that falls outside of the regular Monday-to-Friday day shift of 8 or less hours. Non-standard schedules can involve working nights, afternoons, weekends, holidays, and/or rotating shifts. As is the case for many PSP, these non-standard schedules are compounded by mandatory overtime and short notice call-ins. PSP families may face great challenges navigating these unpredictable and non-negotiable schedules.
